TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: The Corruption Eradication Commission finally taken former Social Affairs Minister Bachtiar Chamsyah into its custody in graft investigation over six month after naming him suspect in two cases which took place between 2004 - 2007.
The 64-year old United Development Party's politician was taken to Cipinang Penitentiary in East Jakarta for his alleged role in graft cases; the sewing machines and cow import from Australia between 2004 - 2006 and garment import from 2006 to 2007.
On the same day another ex-top official with the Health Department Syafii Ahmad, for his suspected involvement in medical equipment procurement graft at his department in 2007. The former Secretary General of the Health Department were detained at Central Jakarta Resort Police detention center.
Bachtiar is accused of incurring state losses of around Rp15.7 billion while Syafii is accused of taking Rp750 million bribe from supplier.
