RI's tax revenue down by 1%

Tax revenue reached Rp 556.77 trillion (US$59.57 billion) in 2009,down by 0.93 percent from Rp 571.1 trillion the previous year.

The country's tax income showed positive growth over the past five years, minus 2009 due to the impact of the global crisis, tax office chief Mochamad Tjiptardjo said Monday.

The government is targeting to raise Rp 715.53 trillion from tax this year, up 28.51 percent from revenue in 2009.

Tjiptardjo added that registered tax payers had reached 15.91 million by the end of 2009.

"There were only 10.68 million registered taxpayers by the end of 2008," he said. (bbs)
