State enterprises deposited Rp 300b in Century Bank

The Jakarta Post, Jakarta | Mon, 12/07/2009 4:58 PM

On Monday, former state enterprises minister Sofjan Djalil said state enterprises had once deposited Rp 300 billion (US$3.4 million) in Century Bank.

However, the amount was considered small compared to the total loans disbursed by state enterprises, he said.

“If Century Bank is now bankrupt and the money is gone, it will have no effect [on state enterprises],” Sofjan said.

He said he became aware of the state enterprises fund in Century Bank in 2008, after serious financial problems were revealed at the bank.

After Century Bank was bailed out, the Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS) once called on state enterprises to keep their money at the bank, he added.

Sofjan said he then ordered his deputy, Parikesit Suprapto, to resolve the case on a business-by-business basis.
