The Coalition of Anticorruption Civil Societies (Kompak) will invite President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono to attend a rally to mark International Anticorruption Day which falls on Wednesday in Jakarta.
Prominent leaders, such as Yudi Latief and Din Syamsuddin, will gather with around 10,000 supporters at the National Monument. Similar action will take place in 33 provinces across the country.
An activist from the coalition Fajdroel Rahman said on Monday that the group would send an official request for the President to join thousands of people at the protest.
“We'll ask for the President to realize our dream that the country will be free from corruption,” Fajdroel told kompas.com.
During the Democratic Party's third national congress on Sunday, the President said the rally might be politically motived. The statement has sparked speculation into Yudhoyono's paranoia. (ewd)
