DPD forms antigraft wing

The Jakarta Post, Jakarta | Wed, 12/09/2009 5:39 PM

To coincide with International Anti-Corruption Day, the Jakarta Regional Representatives Council (DPD) declared Wednesday the formation of an antigraft wing as part of its efforts to build a transparent representative body.

“The wing embodies our commitment to fighting corruption,” I Wayan Sudirta, the chairman of the caucus, said after the declaration at the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) office. Interim KPK chief Tumpak Hatorangan Panggabean and deputy chairmen Bibit Samad Rianto and Haryono Umar were present at the announcement.

At least 91 DPD members supported the initiative, Sudirta said, but only 30 of them attended the declaration.

The declaration requires members of the new wing to actively push for settlement of corruption cases in their electoral districts and at the national level, and encourage and support antigraft policies and programs in their respective electoral districts.

The new wing will also monitor law enforcers who combat corruption.
