TEMPO Interactive, Semarang:Based on the cumulative gross regional domestic growth (PDRB) from the first until the fourth quarter, economic growth in Central Java in 2008 increased by 5.5 percent compared to the previous year.
The growth was based on prices during 2008, which topped Rp362.9 trillion, while they only reached Rp312.4 trillion in 2007.
“In 2009, it is estimated that economic growth in Central Java will be 4.3 percent,” said Indrarto Hadijanto, Chairman of the Central Java Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), yesterday (16/2).
This decrease would be due to the impact of the global financial crisis.
In 2008, he said, all economic sectors forming the PDRB increased.
The highest growth occurred in the financial, rental, and company services sectors, that value of which reached 7.8 percent.
Meanwhile, growth in the services sector was 7.7 percent; transportation and communication 7.5 percent; construction 6.5 percent; trade, hotel, and restaurant 5,1 percent; agriculture 5.1 percent; electricity, gas, and water 4.8 percent; processing 4.5 percent; and mining 3.8 percent.
