Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesia's poverty rate as a percentage of the total population dropped to 16.58 pct as of March this year from 17.75 pct in March 2006, Central Bureau of Statistics deputy chairman on social statistics, Arizal Ahnaf said.
He was quoted by Thomson Financial as telling a press briefing that the number of people living below the poverty line declined to 37.17 mln in March from 39.3 mln the year earlier.
He noted that the poverty line level over that period rose to 166,697 rupiah per month from 151,997 rupiah previously.
The poverty line is the monthly income level below which a person is officially considered to be poor.
