After forcing massive restructuring on Jakarta’s bureaucracy, Governor Basuki
Tjahaja Purnama has announced there will be big changes at the city-owned
enterprises agency, or BUMD.
Basuki said
on Monday that there would be a “reshuffle” of the board of directors, citing
poor profit margins and missed targets as the driver.
“After
having conducted a huge reshuffle of civil servants, we will also do the same
thing for city-owned enterprises’ board of directors,” the governor said.
The entire
board will be dismissed and Basuki said several new appointments had already
been made. Former president director Budi Karya Sumadi is also leaving after
being tapped for a job at state-owned airport management company Angkasa Pura
II.
Basuki said
he was looking for a new candidate to fill the top role that was “honest” and
had “integrity.”
The BUMD,
which manages 27 city-owned enterprises, is required to improve the region’s
economy by providing services for residents.
In December
Basuki announced sweeping job cuts at City Hall due to inefficiency and
“disobedience.” A total of 1,162 civil servant positions were to be cut and
6,849 current roles opened up for new applications.
