SBY criticizes press for “ignoring good news”

The Jakarta Post, Jakarta | Thu, 02/11/2010 6:45 PM

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono criticizes mass media’s obsession in covering bad news in his administration, while good news is often being ignored.

“If we have good news, don’t be shy to share it,” Yudhoyono said at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta, as quoted by kompas.com on Thursday.

The full expose of bad news in mass media has affected Indonesia’s image in the international stage, thereby hurting the country's tourism and investment, he added.

“Bad news is often considered as good news, but I disagree,” said the President.

He suggested the press to maintain its balance and fairness in making reportage. (nkn)
