RI elected high level task force member

London (ANTARA News) - Indonesia represented by Prof. Dr. Emil Salim had been elected one of the 15 High Level Task Force (HLT) members to follow up on the third World Climate Conference in Geneva in September last year.

The main task of the Intergovernmental Meetging (IGM) as laid down in the declaration of the 3rd World Climate Conference is to draw up the Terms of Reference for the HLT, and elect its members.

First Secretary of the Indonesian Permanent Representative in Geneva Muhsin Syihab told ANTARA in London Thursday that Prof. Dr. Emil Salim represented Indonesia and became one of the 15 members of the High Level Taskforce (HLT) on Global Framework for Climate Services (GFCS) at the recent Intergovernmental Meeting di Geneva.

Muhsin Syihab said WMO secretary general Michel Jarraud had submitted the elected 15 names comprising experts and practitioners with international reputation in various fields relating to sustainable development and environmental conservation.

The other 15 members include Jan Egeland, former UN deputy secretary general for humanitarian affairs, Joaquim Alberto Chissano, former President of Mozambique, Ricardo Froilan Lagos Escobar, former President of Chile, and some other big names.

The main task of the HLT is to draw out the Terms of Reference of GFCS which will be reported in a period of 12 months to the WMO member countries for discussion and approval of the WMO Congress in 2011.

The election of Prof. Emil Salim as HLT member increased the list of successes of Indonesia`s diplomacy in multilateral fora, Indonesian Ambassador/Permanent Representative in Geneva Dian Triansyah Djani.
