Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Vice President M Jusuf Kalla at the State Palace here on Tuesday witnessed the swearing in of Dr Harjono as a justice of the Constitutional Court (MK) to succeed Jimly Asshidiqie.
The oath-taking ceremony began at 10 am local time and was also attended by House Speaker Agung Laksono, and a number of ministers including Minister/State Secretary Hatta Radjasa, Communication and Informatics Minister Muhammad Nuh and Marine and Fisheries Minister Freddy Numberi. First Lady Ani Yudhoyono was also present.
Harjono was previously an MK justice for the 2003-2008 period. Before completing his tenure as MK justice, he was appointed ad interim MK deputy chairman to succeed Laica Marzuki who reahced retirement age on March 31, 2008.
In 2009, he was reappointed as an MK justice after going through a fit and proper test by the Parliament`s Commission III to select a justice to fill the post left vacant by Jimly Asshidiqie who resigned in 2008.
The Indonesian Constitutional Court which consists of nine justices was established in 2003 based on Law No. 24 Year 2003 on the Constitutional Court. Indonesia is the 78th country in the world having a Constitutional Court,
