TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyon said that the international institutions said that Indonesia can survive the crisis. “The government's effort has had a good result,” said the President when opening the Festival of the Economy yesterday.
He said the global financial crisis does not have an impact as much as the crisis in 1997. President cited the article in the Economist magazine edition Jan 8 entitled “So Far So Good.” The article mentioned Indonesia on the stable level according to research by Moody's Rating Agency.
However, the President admitted that recession in developed countries can be a threat for industry production in the country as it will reduce the export demand.
In order to anticipate the global crisis this year, the President has decided seven main agenda items including limiting further unemployment, managing inflation, maintaining the real sector, protecting buying power, defending poor people, making sure that food and energy is sufficient, and encouraging the economy's growth.
“The Government will apply the economic stimulus of Rp71.3 trillion,” he said. The President expected the 2009 state budget to be spent accordingly.
