President calls on people to use fuel oil efficiently

Magelang, Central Java (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said the people should use fuel oil efficiently now that the oil price in the world market was soaring.

"We want to overcome the wasting of fuel oil, encourage efficiency and increase production," he said at an informal meeting with workers and handicraftsmen here on Friday.

The President further expressed his wish to reduce the country`s dependence on fossil fuels and to produce energy from other sources such as hydro power.

Many steps needed to be taken to use energy more efficiently and to prevent the people from suffering more due to the soaring oil price, he said.

The government, he added, would try hard to cushion the impact of the soaring oil price on conditions at home.
