KPUD members may lose jobs for accepting cars

Five members of the Bandarlampung General Elections Commission (KPUD) may be dismissed if they are proven to have accepted cars from Mayor Eddy Sutrisno, an official says.

Member of the Lampung KPUD, Nanang Trenggono, said a honorary board would soon be set up to examine the case.

Eddy, who is contesting the upcoming election, may also be prohibited from running in the election if it is proven that he did give five Daihatsu Luxio minivans to the KPUD members, he added.

“The honorary board is not yet set up, but we received a report of the bribery from the Bandarlampung Elections Supervisory

Committee [Panwaslu],” Nanang said on Wednesday.

Last week, the Bandarlampung Election Monitoring Team, an independent group, lodged a report to Lampung Police on the case involving the mayor and the five Bandarlampung KPUD members.

In the report, the monitoring team’s leader Sam Rivai, enclosed proof in the form of car installment documents under the name of Eddy Sutrisno and copies of registration tax documents of the cars, now being used by the five commissioners under the name of Eddy’s daughter.

Eddy denied he had given the cars to the KPUD members, saying he had bought the cars on credit and would use them for his car rental business, run by his son-in-law.

Bandarlampung KPUD head As’ad Muzammil, who earlier denied receiving the gift, now admits he and the four KPUD members received the cars from Eddy.

Eddy’s campaign team leader, Budiman A.S., said the report was being used to smear the campaign for Eddy’s re-election.
